Praying should be formal, right?
Lots of “thou’s” and “art’s?
That must be the key to better prayers!
Going to Protestant churches my whole life has certainly formalized my prayer vocabulary.
I’ve tried it at home.
Even on the ball field with my team.
After all, that’s how we talk everyday to our family and friends.
Isn’t it?
Oh wait…
Nobody talks like that!
Not even in the church parking lot following the service.
*
Bless my church leaders for their reverence, but what century are we exactly in?
Are we smarter than a fifth grader when it comes to praying to God?

Pray Like Children
Perhaps we should follow the direct advice from Jesus:
“Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.”
(Matthew 18:3)
Children know they are dependent on someone else.
*
My kids are the most persistent people I know.
They don’t let up until they get their way.
Or at least until they get a satisfactory answer.
*
I prayed today like that.
Without a single “thou” or “art”!
I encourage you to do the same.
*
Do you feel we should pray more like children?
